ND Air Travelers – THIS is Your Biggest Safety Concern

The Concerns Are Real

First of all, this is not an article designed to have you change your mind about air travel. This is more so to get you caught up with what the number one concern is when it comes to flying. Like I'm sure so many other people, I was completely unaware of this issue, and just how potentially dangerous it is ( enough so that the warning has been posted ) - A recent Alaska Airlines flight experienced this recent safety threat.

Phone and power banks can be a problem

According to linkedin.com "Minutes after Alaska Airlines Flight 2117 had lifted from the runway, a phone and power bank sitting in a passenger’s lap burst into flames. The fire scorched the passenger’s arms and legs before she tossed the devices into the aisle, where flight attendants scrambled to get them into a fireproof bag to quell the blaze. Pilots declared an emergency, dropped oxygen masks in the cabin, and turned back to Wichita, Kan. The incident from earlier this year is just one example of what airlines and regulators say is the fastest-growing safety threat to air travel—phones, power banks and vapes spontaneously catching fire midflight"

Is Air Travel still considered the safest form of travel? 

As much as I fear flying, it still is considered the safest form of travel - according to the  U.S. Department of Transportation "U.S. Department of Transportation and aviation studies show that a passenger is significantly less likely to be hurt or killed on a plane than in a car, bus, train, or motorcycle" - I guess from here on out, do some research on how you can be safe when bringing on your phone and power bank, and stay away from the 20 $ or more salads all airports seem to sell.
