I really can't imagine a more traumatic death to be honest.

According to an email obtained from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a fatal aircraft crash happened this morning in Emmons County.

The crash took place near the town of Strasburg, North Dakota.

Strasburg is about 70 miles southwest of Bismarck on state highway 83.  The accident took place at approximately at 7:40 am this morning.  It appears the crop spraying aircraft hit a high voltage transmission line.  This caused the airplane to crash into a nearby field.

The pilot suffered fatal injuries during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Western Area Power Administration transmission line was severed by the aircraft.  The crash occurred three miles west and three miles south of Strasburg, North Dakota near the intersection of 7th avenue and 92nd street southeast.  The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Federal Aviation Administration with help from the Emmons County Sheriff's office.  The name of the pilot will be released pending notification of family.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

As we receive more information on this developing story we will be sure to pass it along here.  This is the second recent plane crash involving North Dakotan's.  You can read about another one that happened in Minnesota here.

Looking at a history of airplane crashes in North Dakota on the Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Archives website, it appears planes hitting powerlines is a common reason for crashes in North Dakota.
