Our "First Responder Recognition" gives you the opportunity to nominate someone in our community who puts themself out there, on the frontline. The amazing thing is, there are so many people that go about their day silently, modestly, protecting, and keeping us safe. Let me introduce you to a couple of heroes - Father, and daughter, one generation to the next - Mike McCloud and Symmantha McCloud. Mike was in law enforcement for over 20 years, Symmantha is about ready to become the first female police officer in Garrison, ND. She has completed most of her training, including ride alongs, and is waiting for some paperwork to follow through. Her main purpose is simple, to give back to the people, and follow in her father's footsteps. The experiences she gained from watching her father protect and serve the community is huge - her desire to be a part of Garrison, and to make a difference in other's lives is a commitment that is to be admired and respected.

I am personally grateful I have met Mike and Symmantha, I have seen the compassion he still has for those he has once served, and for his town. I am excited about his daughter's new career. Garrison Police Department is gaining a real asset. The responsibility of a police officer is enormous, building trust among the residents - bringing enthusiasm, a great attitude and just being yourself. These are two heroes that we can all be proud of. Good Luck Officer Symmantha! For more on this story click here.
