Great news everyone- the 80th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is a go!  August 7th-15th

The Sturgis City Council voted 8-1 Monday night to proceed with the rally although there will be significant changes.  Gone will be the parade, the B-1 flyover, various contests, the opening ceremony, seating in the plaza, and the prohibiting of open containers.  Good luck with that last one y'all!

The traditions will no doubt be carried on by the many faithful that will flock from all corners of the country.  Without question, the worldwide community of bikers are not part of the "You Can't Do That" culture.   Oh yes they can- and they will.  Odds are, even if they had canceled the event, thousands would have came all the same. I'm certain that was taken into consideration by the City Council.

The Sturgis Rally is not put on by a single organization but instead it's a mix of many independent groups and organizations.  So far it seems all the campgrounds, resorts, and concert venues are moving forward.  Clearly, booking and maintaining bands may become an issue.  But I'm certain there's many touring bands geared up to get back on the road and get back to earning a living.

I'm sure the rally has always been divisive for the community of Sturgis.  Yes, it generate millions of dollars for the area- but the traffic, congestion, and shenanigans drive many locals to leave for the entire week and just surrender the town for a spell.  I imagine they were looking forward to staying home in August for the first time in a long time. Oh, well.

So let's all meet for Bismarck/Mandan's Bike Night every Wednesday night at Sickies Garage in North Bismarck.  Y'all have some planning to do.

August 7-15, We'll see you at the 80th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally!
