In ND – Police Have To Tell You This..But They Shouldn’t

We just survived another year and a New Year's Eve

One of the most potential, if not THE deadliest day/night of the year. People going to parties not being smart, and not coming up with a backup plan, as in what happens when everyone who arrives at the get-together has too many drinks. We are in a very friendly app, social media era where all it takes is to make a quick phone call or alert to have someone pick you up. I find it very scary and unbelievable that police, all around the country, and here in North Dakota - have to tell YOU THIS...

DUI Checkpoints are not devised to haul you out of your vehicle and harass you 

Here is the thing, you don't see there EVERY night, week, or month. Driving UNDER The Influence - I remember back in the days when I drank, and I was with my friends in San Diego, one of us always knew WHEN and WHERE the DUI checkpoints would be. To this day I find that amazing, for even drunk people are smart, and when wasted and behind the wheel they will avoid that area. So WHY do the police post the information then?

Some people feel that it violates their 4th Amendment rights

Here is the deal, according to fargond.gov "Some judges have interpreted North Dakota law to suggest a motorist must be given an opportunity to avoid a checkpoint if they so choose. Therefore, a "Sobriety Checkpoint Ahead" sign is posted in the area immediately ahead of the checkpoint"  which is mind-boggling to me. These checkpoints are designed for only one thing - to get dangerous drunk drivers off the road. If you had a loved one lose their life to an inebriated individual who made a lack of judgment, you would have no problem coming across one of these checkpoints.

 North Dakota must post signs in advance of DUI checkpoints to give drivers the opportunity to avoid them...

...BUT they shouldn't ....no way.
