Williston Basin CTE Center Opens Its Doors

The Williston Basin Career & Technical Education (CTE) Center opened in August 2024, and provides students from Williston Basin School District #7 (WBSD7) and other regional high schools with access to a range of Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities. 

Real-World Learning, Right in High School

The CTE Center is an independent extension of high school classes, and gives students hands-on, real-world learning experiences that prepare them for high-demand careers and post-secondary education.

Students get access to state-of-the-art facilities, and cutting-edge technology, while pursuing fields including health sciences, construction, information technology, aviation, and more.  

Spotlight on Student Success: Tannyn Vaughn

Tannyn Vaugh, a senior at CTE Center, recently competed at a prestigious culinary event in Mandan, North Dakota. The FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) Culinary Arts Competition, is where students display their culinary skills, creativity, and knowledge.  

Culinary Competition Brings Out the Best

The competition took place on April 6th, and Tannyn went up against peers from across the state, including Minot North, Bismarck Legacy, and Fargo North. Participants were judged on their ability to prepare and present dishes with precision, innovation, and professionalism.

Gold Medal Performance

Tannyn earned first place, scoring a near perfect 93/100 -- the only Gold Level score of the culinary competition! His winning meal consisted of Classic Steak Dianne (Medium Rare), Roasted Red Bliss Potatoes and Green Beans & Mushrooms.

Next Stop: Nationals in Orlando

With his impressive win, Tannyn earned a spot at the FCCLA Nationals in Orlando, Florida this summer. HIs success will open doors to exciting future career opportunities in the culinary world.
