Williston, ND Artist Partners with UMDHU for Mental Wellness
Upper Missouri District Health Unit Launches CredibleMind Website
Upper Missouri District Health Unit recently launched the CredibleMind site where residents can find local resources and information to support their overall well-being.
Partnering with Local Artist Onesti Krieger
UMDHU has teamed up with local artist, Onesti Krieger to promote the CredibleMind website. By having a local artist that uses her art to express her feelings, they are giving space to others to consider their feelings, and give them tools to improve their mood.
Krieger is excited to be a part of the Credible Mind project because it’s an honor to be promoting mental wellness.
Art as a Tool for Coping with Seasonal Depression
Onesti's featured piece, Winter Fly Away, was inspired by her experience with seasonal depression. “During winter and early spring, it seems my happiness goes dormant. I am trying to symbolize winter flying away, so my happiness will return.”
Creating art during those times helps her cope, “Painting is a good distraction. It also gives me something to look forward to. And when you love to paint, it’s a great inside (and warm) activity. The best part is, I’m executing self expression and that helps me reconnect with myself."

Onesti’s Advice for North Dakotans Facing Seasonal Depression

- Self Care: Hit the gym, coffee with a friend, date night, manicure/pedicure, massage, hair apt, go to the tanning bed, hire someone to help you clean/organize your space, take a hot bath.
- Call your doctor. Let them know what’s going on. Or see a therapist. We all can use assistance understanding our feelings/past situations.
