Williston, ND Nurse Recognized for Excellence
Nurses at CHI St. Alexius Health Williston are being recognized with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®, a special honor from the DAISY Foundation. This award highlights the outstanding, compassionate care nurses provide to patients and families every day.
Lorrie Antos, VP of Patient Care Services at CHI St. Alexius Health, said, "Nurses are heroes every day, and it's important they know their work is deeply valued. The DAISY Award gives us a way to do just that."
One of the recent recipients is Amy Williams, an RN in Orthopedics at CHI St. Alexius Health Williston. Amy was praised for her expertise and exceptional care, both before and after her patient's knee replacement surgery.
A patient nominated her, sharing how reassuring and knowledgeable she was when explaining the pre-op and post-op instructions. The patient expressed gratitude, saying, "Amy made me and my family feel great. She had great tips for post-op, and I appreciate everything she did—from the surgery to all the appointments and calls in between." The patient even called her "the best Ortho nurse ever!"

The DAISY Foundation, a nonprofit established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, was inspired by the care Patrick and his family received from nurses during his illness. Patrick passed away at 33 from a rare autoimmune disease called Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The DAISY Award was created to honor nurses who make a significant difference in the lives of their patients and families.
Each honoree receives a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer's Touch, made by artists from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe. Nurses can be nominated by patients, families, or colleagues, and a committee at CHI St. Alexius Health Williston selects the recipient.
