This had to be one of the most ugly cases of animal cruelty in North Dakota ever.

A gruesome, horrific, and disgusting video surfaced back in September of 2023 showing one person beheading a young kitten with a grain shovel, while a group of young people laughed and looked on.

I'm not going to show you the video, as to be honest it's just too disturbing.  However, here's a screenshot from the video showing you this heinous act. To watch the animal quiver and shake while the kids laugh in the background is just chilling.

Where did this video come from?

It was copied from one of the person's social media accounts.  Why would anybody ever post something like this?

The person charged for beheading the cat was Trevor Dean Demaray of Tappen, North Dakota.

He was charged with Animal Abuse, a Class A misdemeanor. "North Dakota is 50th in the nation for strict animal abuse laws." Members of Furry Friends Rockin' Rescue say our animal cruelty laws in North Dakota are way too lenient.

The lawyer for Demaray says he was putting the animal out of its misery.  They kept saying the kitten was paralyzed.

The video of the incident was played for the courtroom showing Demarary using a grain shovel to decapitate the kitten. However, the audio from the video was not played for the courtroom.

In that video (which I have seen and heard the audio), the witnesses watching the incident can be heard laughing while the kitten is struggling and Demaray was trying to cut the head off of the kitten, which took him several times to do. Grain shovels are not exactly sharp.

Again, very disturbing, and why the audio was not used during the trial is a head-scratcher.

This all happened at a work site in Menoken, North Dakota where Demaray worked. The kitten had crawled into the engine of a truck.

One main question that was asked of Demaray, was why he didn't take the animal to the vet. They all had phones and a vehicle. Menoken is a short drive to Bismarck.

After the smoke had cleared the courtroom a jury of 6 acquitted Demaray of all charges and he was free of the charges.

Despite a Veterinarian testifying that by looking at the video the kitten was still alive and still moving.

This left a very bad taste in the mouth of Julie Schirado from Furry Friends Rockin' Rescue. She believes we have to have much tougher animal abuse laws in the state. She told me, "Today is a very sad day for domesticated animals (dogs & cats) in the state of North Dakota."
