This Is How Much North Dakotans Spend On Groceries Per Week
How much do you spend on groceries per week?
It seems like I'm at the grocery store two to three times per week at least on the way home from work.
I'm someone who tries to eat healthy, I plan out my meals for my family and try to avoid fast food options at all costs.
This brings me back to our local grocery stores in North Dakota and some of the insane prices we have been paying the last few years.
It's crazy to think how some of the items that we used to buy every week are now twice as expensive (if not more) than they were 5 years ago.
And of course, the healthiest food is the most expensive.
I'm someone who tries to eat his share of fruits and vegetables and that is where some of the steepest hikes are. I couldn't believe how much a small carton of strawberries is now ($6.99). Every time I make this purchase I literally have to bite the bullet.
Even if I stick to the 15 items or less in the self-checkout lane I know I'm going to be spending somewhere around $75 bucks for just a few bags. This is crazy.
How does North Dakota compare with the rest of the country when it comes to grocery spending per week?
According to a post on Usa Thoughts on Facebook, a map shows we are on the expensive side of the spectrum.
According to the map above, North Dakotans spend $265 dollars a week on groceries.
Depending on the size of your family you are likely spending much more than that (well over a grand a month I'm guessing).
North Dakotans spend more on groceries than any of our neighboring states, which is hard to understand considering we are the breadbasket of America. I mean, after all, we grow so much of America's food.
Minnesota spends $251 a week on groceries.
Montana spends $246 a week on groceries.
South Dakota spends $256 a week on groceries.
I couldn't find any info on where they got the data to make this map, but it's interesting nonetheless.
