Joni Mitchell has been seen in public for the first time since suffering a life-threatening aneurysm last year.

Mitchell's site and social media channels report that she attended jazz pianist Chick Corea's show at the Catalina Bar and Grill in Los Angeles on Aug. 20, where she posed for a photo at her table with friends. "We are thrilled to see Joni out and about again," enthused Mitchell's site, while her Facebook feed posted the Corea concert photo and added, "She's back!"

The photo comes as a welcome sign of recovery for fans who've worried about the singer-songwriter since her ordeal. Intensely private, Mitchell has been the subject of rumors since falling ill, with various reports suggesting occasionally alarming developments in between vaguely encouraging updates from official channels.

"Joni did in fact suffer an aneurysm," her guardian said last fall in a statement. "Joni is speaking, and she’s speaking well. She is not walking yet, but she will be in the near future as she is undergoing daily therapies. She is resting comfortably in her own home and she’s getting better each day. A full recovery is expected."

Although attending a concert obviously doesn't mean Mitchell's completely on the mend, it's a welcome development all the same. It's bound to be flattering for Corea, who appeared alongside Mitchell on Herbie Hancock's Gershwin tribute album and listed her as an early influence in a 2011 interview.

"I ... listened to Joni Mitchell in the late '60s," recalled Corea. "I thought she was a really creative lady in the way she made her music. She was delicate with the form of her music. Her music didn’t have a lot of force in it, but it had a great groove and a great message."
