The Mark Andrews International Airport in Grand Forks is the busiest airport in North Dakota.  There are times when it is one of the busiest airports in the country, thanks to the University of North Dakota flight school.

According to UND Today, Grand Forks International airport (GFK) was the busiest airport in the country for a period of 2021.  Specifically, March 1st through the 3rd and again on March 8th.  According to the FAA, the airport (GFK) had as many as 2,000 instructions to pilots taking off and landing on a given day.  The majority of those planes are from the University of North Dakota's flight school.  Historically, UND's busy schedule puts GFK in the top 25 busiest airports in the country nearly every year.  That's right, move over Atlanta's Hartsfield, Chicago's O'Hare, New York's LaGuardia, and LAX!

Now, the largest flight school in North Dakota is attempting to reduce its carbon footprint.  According to the Grand Forks Herald, the University of North Dakota Fight School will switch to unleaded fuel known as UL94 produced by Swift Fuels, an Indiana-based company that makes high-performance fuels.  UL94 will take the place of 100 octane low lead fuel.  In addition to a greener operation, the University of North Dakota Flight School is expected save money with UL94 with reduced aircraft maintenance costs.

Sounds like a win-win for the University of North Dakota Flight School in Grand Forks and the Grand Forks International Airport with all those take-offs and touch-downs each and every day.
