Not long ago I had a chance to meet and talk with some truly amazing people

There I was, basically right across the street from our radio station in Mandan, at a block party put on by the First International Bank & Trust - The Memorial Square Shopping Center parking lot came alive with the aroma of hot dogs and brats, a bouncy house set up, Butterfly Body Art was entertaining the kids with some magical bodywork - the theme of the party was "Saying thank you to the Mandan community, from the bank", and it was clearly appreciated, and I'm grateful, for I met some terrific people.

Alexis, Jordan, and Cara were there, along with some individuals from HIT Inc

If you are not aware of HIT Inc, they are a wonderful group "...supporting people with disabilities through self-directed services that promote independence, dignity, and respect"  according to hitinc.org. I had a chance to ask Alexis what she loves about her job - "Fulfilling - like a work family" she replied. Just by being around these three people, it was completely obvious to me that it takes a remarkable person to work/volunteer at HIT Inc. Personally I would think THE hardest part would be to not let yourself become too emotionally attached - but by watching Alexis, Jordan, and Cara yesterday I started to slowly understand their strength.

Let me take a couple of minutes and share with you what Ashley Harris ( marketing coordinator - HIT Inc ) relayed to me this afternoon...

Our Mission

  • We will strive to meet our customers' needs.
  • We will serve as a catalyst in uniting our customers and the community.
  • We will attract, retain, and motivate competent employees.
  • We will effectively use resources in customer-driven activities.

I think this next part says it all...

" My Thoughts on HIT and DSPs - I firmly believe that our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are invaluable assets to our organization, given the profound daily impact they have on the lives of individuals we serve. We facilitate the exploration of individuals' interests, passions & hobbies through engaging in community activities. I believe that by being actively involved in our community and promoting inclusivity, we can make a positive impact on the daily lives of the individuals we serve and foster a fulfilling life for everyone involved"

I paused for a second, on the phone with Ashley, she said something to me that I'll never forget..."They are part of who we are"
