President Barack Obama Says Alternate Route for Dakota Access Pipeline Being Considered
The Army Corps of Engineers is currently looking at alternate routes for the Dakota Access Pipeline, according to President Barack Obama.
Obama recently spoke with NowThis about the Dakota Access Pipeline and revealed that alternate routes for the pipeline were currently being investigated:
According to The New York Times, David Archambault II, the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, released a statement, which commends the President on his commitment to protect both sacred land and water.
Tensions, of course, have been high near the Dakota Access Pipeline construction sites, where the number of protesters continue to grow. Earlier today (11/2), protesters and police officers were engaged in a standoff north of the Oceti Sakowin camp.
According to The Bismarck Tribune, officers used pepper spray and nonlethal projectiles to disperse the crowds that had taken to the water near the camp. The protesters claimed they just wanted to pray, after building a bridge across Cantapena Creek during the overnight hours.
