It's that time of year once again for the most popular baby names in the U.S. for 2018 to be released.

The list isn't exactly broken down state-by-state, but if you're expecting, you may be intrigued as to what ended up on the list of the most popular baby names this year.

The most popular name for a boy in 2018 was Jackson. I mean, Jax could be considered short for that, right? Now that my pat on the back for the day is out of the way, let's move on.

The most popular name for a girl in 2018 is Sophia. When you think of famous Sophia's in history, Sophia Loren, the Italian actress comes to mind, or perhaps Sophia Bush, formerly of the popular television show, 'One Tree Hill'. Speaking of television, there's also Sophia from 'Golden Girls' played by the late Estelle Getty.

This past May, my sister-in-law gave birth to my nephew, Daxton, who I met for the first time over this past Thanksgiving break weekend. His name didn't make the top 50, but I think there's something to be said for their originality in coming up with his name. When it's at the top in 2019, you can thank my brother and sister-in-law.

The ten most popular baby names for boys and girls in 2018 are below.
