These are the 10 BEST dive bars in the state of North Dakota!

That's a bold statement, but I just got done counting more than 1,000 votes from our listeners, readers, and fans, so I'm sticking to it.  This is actually a story a year and a half in the making.

As a big hunter and fisherman, I enjoy stopping into the local establishments and having a beer with the locals in small towns all across North Dakota.  This has taken me to some interesting-looking places.  I still remember the time when I stopped into Gunny's in Elgin and one of the patrons looked at me in my orange pheasant hunting vest and said to me, "This ain't no college bar."  Ouch, not a warm welcome from him but it wasn't long and locals were warming up to my friends and me.

Another time we grabbed a beer at the Cannonball Saloon in Regent after chasing some roosters, and some mom asked if I would take her daughter to prom.  Yes, this was a few years ago, but something I'll never forget being way out of high school.

Before I get to "The 10 Best Dive Bars in North Dakota", I wanted to give you some of the honorable mentions that didn't quite make the top 10.
