Today (Dec. 20), the U.S. Census Bureau released new population estimates for each state.

The data shows that North Dakota went down in population from July 1, 2016 to July 1, 2017. There were 755,548 people in North Dakota in July 2016 according to the Census Bureau and that decreased to 755,393.

It isn't a huge decrease but it still says something that the population didn't increase as it had every year from 2010 to 2016.

The Census Bureau estimates that there were 11,064 births in the state from July 2016 to July 2017 and 6,086 deaths in that same time period.

The state netted 1,489 people from abroad via immigration but it is estimated that the state lost 6,653 citizens of the United States to migration.
