Now that I've suddenly got a hankering for nuts, not everybody is in a cozy, friendly mood

Yes sir, there are plenty of Minot, North Dakotans that are literally ready to strangle those cute little critters - the ones you see dart across the street and race up a tree, or the ones that know EXACTLY what they are doing when they are begging for a nut here and there and driving my cats crazy. The cuteness stops, however, when they start taking over a city.

"Squirrels are exasperating the people of Minot, North Dakota ..."

Taking no prisoners and burrowing holes everywhere, residents are starting to call it "an uphill battle" frustrated by their rowdy tactics. This isn't something new either. According to nbcnews.com "Ground squirrels have been an issue in Minot, a city of nearly 50,000 people, for at least 20 years, but the problem has dramatically worsened in the last few years, said Minot Street Department Superintendent Kevin Braaten.

It’s unclear how many of the squirrels live in Minot but it likely nears or even exceeds the city’s population"

Not everyone wants the squirrels to disappear

Hey look, we see a squirrel racing along the backyard, big bushy tail bouncing along, and there are a lot of people who immediately say, "Ah how cute" - but there are others like Joshua Herman who say flat-out that "“They get that cute association, and they are, you know, adorable, but they’re a vermin and a pest and dangerous when they are allowed to proliferate,”

So, who will eventually win this battle?

Herman had a great line saying "...fighting the squirrels is akin to “one guy standing against a massive storm.” Sounds to me like the odds are with the squirrels.
