Last month, in Fargo, sometime between 6:00 pm Friday, December 18th and Monday the 21st - a man wearing a mask, carrying an axe was caught on video walking up a staircase towards Sen. John Hoeven's office. Once he reached his destination, he let fly with some wielding blows - taking out a window, and damaging a wall. The time it took was less than a minute, then with all the casual approach of someone who was just out for a breath of fresh air, the suspect walked away.

According to KFYR TV Thomas Stark of Lisbon, North Dakota has been charged with destroying Sen. John Hoeven’s, R-N.D., office entrance - his preliminary hearing is the 21st of this month. A Go-Fund-Me page raising money for legal defense expenses for the suspect, The Stark family’s fundraising page said they need $15,000 for a quality defender in this case, and by late afternoon on Jan. 8, they’ve raised nearly $8,000. Enter now some actions that have raised some eyebrows - Three North Dakota Democrats are being criticized for contributing money. Democratic-NPL Party Chairwoman Kylie Oversen, Party Executive Committee Representative Ellie Shockley, and the party’s nominee for lieutenant governor in 2012 Ellen Chaffee all gave donations.

So the big question would be WHY? Why would they donate money to someone who has been accused of a crime that he CLEARLY can be identified on the video? Party Chairwoman Oversen responded “I firmly believe that everyone, no matter their socioeconomic status, deserves a full and rigorous defense when accused of a crime. The small donation I made won’t even pay for an hour of time with a private defense attorney. I plainly and resolutely condemn violence, including against elected officials and public property. My donation does not reflect my views on the incident.”

North Dakota Republican Party Chairmen Rick Berg disagrees “Video evidence leaves little in doubt about this attack, so it is unfathomable why ND Dem-NPL officials would lend their name and financial support to a man they refer to as ‘innocent.'''

I'm all about justice and seeing someone pay for their actions, I also believe that we are human and can make awful mistakes. What do you think?
