A Caravan Of Love For A Beloved Mandan Superlady
That is exactly what took place back on October 12th
Some people may have been complaining about the dark clouds and chili weather in the high 40s - but it was sunny skis for us over here at 4303 Memorial Highway - Bismarck's Townsquare Media ( in Mandan, on the strip ) - We all gathered with one common purpose, to drive over and visit one of our family members - Dolly Dakota. This woman truly is a statue of strength, motivation, and hope...hope for others who are going through cancer treatments.
A friendly familiar hometown voice on Cool 98.7 has been void for a while now
When Dolly is "On the air", you will hear upbeat narratives of what is happening in OUR city - a smile is immediately implanted in our brains when we hear her voice, the image of Dolly Dakota - who loves Mandan and enjoys making people feel comfortable about themselves - and she is exceptional at that. Several trips to Fargo for treatments, in and out of hospitals, and a flood of highs and lows have been a part of her life for years now. There is no way I can even begin to TRY and relate to what she is going through, I believe all of us feel that way. So WE all wanted to collect ourselves and show up at this superstar's house - we barged our way in with requests for hugs and in return to show our appreciation and respect for a real role model. Someone who shares her life with people she feels are her friends - her listeners.
This is what it's like to be a part of something special
That's the way I looked at it. We didn't alert the media or announce our plans on the radio - we all piled into our vehicles and one by one drove out to her house. On the way over, I had a feeling of being part of something special, of being a member of a large family. This is what people do for each other, without even giving it a second thought. To channel our energy into a special person we care about.
I'm proud of who we are
I believe we are much more than just 5 radio stations - we care about Bismarck and Mandan - and we can't wait for this awesome young lady to climb back into her chair, pull her headphones over her ears, turn on the microphone, and charm us all once again.
