A North Dakota Man Linked To JFK Was A True Hero
If I were to ask you what pops into your head when I mention the words "Secret Service", what would that be?
Without hesitation, I think of a man or woman who puts their life on the line 24/7 to protect. and serve our country by keeping the President of the United States safe from harm in every way possible. My engineer immediately said the name "Clint Hill"
November 22, 1963
It is one of the most famous dates in history. The President of the United States was in Dallas, Texas - John F Kennedy was in a motorcade with his wife Jacqueline. Smiling and waving to the crowds lining both sides of the street, when three gunshots rang out. After what seemed like an eternity in slow motion, a man named Clint Hill raced towards the car.
Larimore, North Dakota
On January 4th, 1932 Clint Hill was born in Larimore, North Dakota. As an infant, Clint was adopted by a loving couple in Washburn, ND - where he grew up and excelled in sports - "playing football, baseball, basketball, hockey, and spending free time ice skating across Painted Woods Creek a few miles from town" according to history.nd.gov
“If only I’d have gotten there two seconds sooner.”
After graduating from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota in 1954, just 4 years later he was a Secret Service agent - and found himself assigned to President Dwight Eisenhower’s Secret Service detail. A couple of years later on that sunny day in Dallas, events would change the course of his life.
