I see you nodding your head as you look at the cover picture of this article. No offense to all past or present recruits of the North Dakota Highway Patrol, but this new one is out-of-this-world cute. Say hello to Gary!

How old is this young pup? What does it take to become a North Dakota Highway Patrol recruit?

This handsome fella is 8 weeks old, and he is a man trailing bloodhound. You may wonder if he has been recruited strictly for his good looks and charm. That's not the case at all. What does it take to become a North Dakota Highway Patrol recruit? First of all his partner is Trooper Heisler and they are located in the Northeast Region of the state. Training is already underway, and it's not easy.
