A Bismarck native and an Olympic dream...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is one of those stories that is just so hard to even comprehend.

The ups and downs of life AND sports are sometimes just flat-out cruel. The talk of North Dakota, Bismarck, heck the whole United States was our very own Britta Curl. Her Olympic dreams have been very well known, as just yesterday she was hoping to get on a plane and leave for the 2022 Winter Olympics, in Beijing, China, to join her teammates on the United States Hockey Team. Her father Bill had this to say on his Facebook page late this afternoon, "Britta Curl's Olympic dreams have once again been upended. She tested positive for COVID and will not be able to go"

Britta was added as an injury replacement for Brianna Decker

Britta, a superstar from the University of Wisconsin, had a boatload of accomplishments, just a virtual long scroll of athletic achievements. According to NDHSAA  Her talents were quite obvious when "...as a member of the Bismarck Blizzard, she took part in four State championships. She actually has had some experience with winning gold, when she did that with the Under-18 Women's National Team at the World Championship in Russia"

She was so close to making the team outright, then she's on her way...then sadly this..

Skating her heart out, she was so close to making the United States Women's Olympic Team outright, going all the way to the final cut. After the aches and pains of just missing out, she appeared to have her Olympic dream alive once again. All of our hearts are with you Britta, especially here in Bismarck

***** NEVER GIVE UP YOUR DREAM *****

Check it out, the date of the above story was February 9, 2022. Britta never gave up, and almost four years later, she is nearing her ultimate goal, to play in the Olympics, this time, the 2026 Olympics! According to Inforum.com "Two days before the official roster announcement, Curl-Salemme's phone lit up while the PWHL's Minnesota Frost were in Toronto. It was a FaceTime call from U>S Women's National Team general manager Katie Million. Million congratulated Curl-Salemme and told her she was one of the 23 players selected for the U.S women's hockey team at the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan. "It's still taking me a while to process everything," Curl-Salemme said, "It's just so unbelievable."

Isn't this the best story ever?
