Still seems like yesterday when the heated battle - the conversation was split on whether the bridge would be saved or not

When I first came to Bismarck ( over 5 years ago ), the heated debate on whether or not to save the bridge was talked about. As always, we blink an eye, and time flies by. Do you realize that its been almost two years now since the railroad construction began?

So now the burning question - how much longer for when this will be complete?

Well to try and answer the above question, let's do some math - the BNSF ( Burlington Northern Santa Fe ) recently announced that " BNSF’s Bismarck bridge construction passes halfway mark" - so I'm guessing if all goes well there is at least another 2 years left? However we all know that Mother Nature controls almost everything we do.

"“This is a significant project with 24/7 work..."

So what exactly is the project they are working on? According to bnsf.com  "For nearly two years, BNSF has been constructing a new bridge across the Missouri River here and making sure that a channel is open so water navigation can continue.

The new single-track bridge, replacing the 140-year-old adjacent bridge, built by predecessor Northern Pacific, will support heavier, wider and taller freight. The new 1,554-foot-long bridge will feature four main structural steel spans with precast concrete girder approaches"

Look for 2 new piers in the future

What's the goal? The goal of this year’s work is to have the two new piers in place before winter. If the timeline isn’t met, the whole project could be pushed out.

Once again only time will tell
