FBI Warning Reaches BisMan-United-States-Postal Service
Ransomware attack threats
Those are three words that sound pretty threatening to me. All I know is that "Ransom" is when someone or something is held over either ONE or a large group of people - as in "Threatened for money value" - either PAY a clever thief ( or thieves ) OR have important information disclosed.
Sounds like something right out of the movies doesn't it?
This is the kind of world we live in. With computers and social media, AND through our cell phones and personal mail, unfortunately, we are "Open game" to hackers -or "so-called Ghost attackers" Where is this happening? In large cities? Are smaller cities in jeopardy as well?
At least 3 agencies have come out with a warning - and your e-mail address is at risk
Always scary to read something like this, for most of us have an e-mail address, which no doubt has stored personal information, bank info etc, - according to brobible.com "The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) have issued a warning about a potentially costly Medusa ransomware scheme"
"ransomware-as-a-service software called Medusa has recently affected more than 300 victims"
"ransomware attack threats" have been delivered by the United States Postal Service. So what can be done about this? One of the suggestions for this from CISA:
"Require multi-factor authentication for all services to the extent possible, particularly for webmail, virtual private networks, and accounts that access critical systems"
Warnings are posted for your safety
Be diligent and always be aware of attacks.
