Well, what happened last Sunday no garage on earth would have mattered - an asteroid the size of a pick-up truck came within 2,000 miles of Earth, the closest ever recorded. Here is the scariest part, NASA says the fiery rock or whatever went unnoticed. Six hours went by after the fact that someone eventually detected it. Now that's really comforting, isn't it? Nothing like having half a town squashed like an aluminum can after we have all this technology looking for disasters. This alien object flew past earth at a staggering 27,600 mph, but listen there is hope right? I mean check out what Paul Chodas, director of NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies told the news "We didn't see it coming." 

Listen, there actually is a name for this asteroid, it is 2020 QG (formerly known as ZTF0DxQ), Gee I'm sorry I wasn't aware of the FORMER name -Give me a break. I hear you loud and clear when you ask is there some kind of strategy that is being worked on to detect accurately an asteroid that wants to demolish all of humanity? Fox News reports this answer In April 2019, NASA awarded a $69 million contract to SpaceX, the space exploration company led by Elon Musk, to help it with asteroid deflection via its DART mission.
