End Of An Era

After 8 years serving the many patrons of the North Dakota Heritage Center, James River Cafe store owner, Isabel Oliveira, announced she will not be renewing her lease and will no longer be operating the cafe. This news came to light earlier today (Sunday, April 10th) through a post on the cafe's Facebook page.

If You Didn't Know:

The James River Cafe sits by the Russell Reid Auditorium and right around the corner from the glass atrium. The shop is a great place to rest and fuel up before hitting the next exhibit. I, myself, have gone to the cafe, and was nothing short of delighted with its coffee and pastries.

Is this the end?

No. As far as I know, the cafe will still remain a part of the Heritage Center Museum, it is simply in need of a new owner/operator. I've reached out to the owner and she told me the Heritage Center is currently accepting bids. I also asked her why she's making the change; she said it was just time to move on.

"I have been doing it for almost 8 years, and decided to change course and do something different," said Isabel Oliveira.

Oliveira also told me she will look back at the experience with great fondness.

"I appreciated working at the Heritage Center, it’s a great environment, I got to meet people from all over the world. I will miss my regulars," said Oliveira.

Frequent Flyers:

If you frequently go to this cafe and are enrolled in its rewards/loyalty program, the current owner said, that your points and discounts need to be cashed in as soon as possible. However, Oliveira says the store will continue honoring gift cards.

Oliveira's last day of operations will be May 15th.
