Payless ShoeSource is closing all 2,300 U.S. stores, which includes its store inside the Kirkwood Mall in Bismarck.

According to KX News and the business news organization Reuters, Payless ShoeSource is preparing to file for bankruptcy. It will be the second time in the past two years the company will have to do so.

All inventory will be sold off by the company.

North Dakota has six Payless ShoeSource locations. Not only does Bismarck have the one (for the time being), but there's also one in Minot, Grand Forks, and Fargo. Shopko stores in Stanley and Beulah each contain a Payless ShoeSource as well.

Reuters says the company, which is based out of Topeka, KS, attempted to find a buyer recently, but those attempts have been unsuccessful and will, therefore, be forced to go into liquidation. Over the next week, Payless ShoeSource shops are preparing to run going-out-of-business sales at its shops.

Reuters also said that Payless ShoeSource has declined to comment at this time.
