Valley News Live reports that students at North Dakota State University are protesting their school's mask mandate. The group told Valley News Live that they just want everyone to have the right to choose whether they want to mask or not.

According to the World Health Organization, as of August 30, 2021, there are just over 216.3 million cases in the world and just under 4.5 million deaths. That means that 2.1% of cases in the whole world passed away due to complications with the illness. While it is tragic that people die from COVID-19 (or any illness), there are still literally billions of people on this earth who are functioning and trying to live life whether they catch COVID or not.

While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is adamant that masks work, I am not convinced. In North Dakota, we definitely do not take masking and social distancing as seriously as we are being demanded to. At the time of this post, there are around 117,000 cases in the state and we have had just under 1,600 deaths. So, 1.4% of cases in North Dakota are fatal - we are down .7% from the rest of the world and we do not "mask up" as other places do.

We are creeping up on year two of this pandemic and it totally feels like we are going to backslide to where we were in 2020 - masks, social distancing, and chaos. And then what is next?

Do you think North Dakota college students should have to wear masks on campus?
