I want to pass on a lesson in life that I have learned that is way too late for me, but hopefully not for you. Mother's day and Father's day. These are two days that go by year-after-year, both taking place on the weekends, and of course,

I know all about the commercial values - money spent at restaurants, sales on products used by mom and dad, etc. We usually are in our daily routine, hard at work, that the two special separate events come at us so quickly, and all that we can do is make a phone call on Sunday. I know the perfect song that describes this situation, the disappearance of time spent with your parents as we get older - Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin. The lyrics are accurate and haunting--"I've long since retired and my son's moved away I called him up just the other day
I said I'd like to see you if you don't mind
He said, I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time
You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, dad
It's been sure nice talking to you
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me"

I lost my mom back in 2010, and my father just recently. I would give anything in the world to just sit down with her again out in the patio, and watching college football with my dad. My hope for you next Sunday is to not sweat the materialistic things, take some time and be with your dad, grilling steaks outside. Let the present time be the most important days of your life.
