Bismarck’s “Gentle Giant” Commits To Iowa State
A talented 17-year-old Bismarck High Junior has an amazing career ahead of him
First of all, let's all take a look at some of his stats:
BHS ‘25 Football-#65-OT First team all state, Basketball-C-#32 6'6 310lbs Track-Shotput 53,5 3x st qual Disc, 180,8 2x st qual 701-595-6318: 3.8 Gpa.
This young man is on the Demon basketball team, throws a disc, and a shotput in track and well it's safe to say he plays a little football - so much so that it's almost impossible to get him off the field - an offensive and defensive lineman. Remember this name - Jack Shaffer.
A HUGE day for a HUGE "Gentle Giant"...
...I'll let Jack tell you via his Twitter account:
His announcement will make a ton of coaches sad - like the ones from Duke, Indiana, Notre Dame, UND, Wisconsin, and many more. It also brings mixed emotions from a proud mother - Deb Berger. "He's so humble, such a great kid, a "Gentle Giant"...makes me cry. I'm grateful for everything AND Jack will be getting a full ride ( scholarship ) which will help me out quite a bit :) )
I had a wonderful 10-minute conversation with Jack's mom this afternoon
Thanks to this Jack Shaffer I am officially a Iowa State Cyclones fan. I could feel her excitement through my cell phone as Deb told me about her son. A guy who is even taller than his height in sportsmanship - a player who will take the time on the basketball court to make sure every opponent's hand is shaken after a game. She knows that he has one more year left with the Bismarck High Demons, and she is also quite aware of how quickly that time will go by. She is a wonderful lady/mother with an enormous heart, and it's obvious where Jack picked up his personality and drive from.
Congratulations to Jack Shaffer and his mom Deb Berger...
All of Bismarck should be so proud of a guy who can move a mountain with his talents, and his enormous physical size, but mostly for what a terrific individual he is - how he treats others with respect, that's the most important part.
Now go watch RUDY ( my favorite football movie ) when you two have the time!
