Why do people fear or hate the police?

Simple question I think, because there are so many people that feel uncomfortable around police. Is it the badge or gun? Do they just hate authority, or are they wanted by the law? I know that you have heard this a trillion times, but they are JUST people. They have a demanding, high stressful job, and every time they leave their house for work the men and women put their life on the line. When you see a police car behind you, no need to worry, they are simply out on the streets of Bismarck for our protection.

Here is your chance to sit with an officer and get to know an actual human being

The last time I went to one of these was in Minot, North Dakota, and it was great. This Friday take a few minutes out of your day and plan on stopping by around 9:00 am - Coffee with a Cop at the Gifted Bean Coffee House at Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library. According to bismarcktribune.com " The event is meant as an informal opportunity for people to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in city neighborhoods" What an awesome way to just be yourself in an open, comfortable environment, no pressure whatsoever.

Break down any barriers you may have

So Friday the only thing you'll have to worry about is where are the cream and sugar. When you sit down with a police officer they are representing our city of Bismarck, but most importantly they are just like yourself, they have a family, loved ones, and responsibilities. Take this as an opportunity to get to know your neighbor who keeps us safe.
