Passenger Dies In McKenzie County Rollover Crash Near Alexander

A late-night drive in McKenzie County ended in tragedy Friday night when a single-vehicle rollover crash claimed the life of a Trenton woman and left a Williston man seriously injured.

The crash happened at approximately 10:00p.m. Friday, August 21, near the intersection of 146th Avenue Northwest and 39th Street Northwest, northwest of Alexander.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2016 Ford Mustang was traveling westbound on 146th Avenue Northwest at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to negotiate a curve.

Vehicle Left Roadway and Rolled

The Mustang left the roadway and entered a ditch, where it vaulted and rolled.

The 31 year-old male driver from Williston was seriously injured. He was transported by ambulance to Williston and was later flown to Trinity Hospital in Minot for treatment.

The passenger, a 43 year-old woman from Trenton, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Both occupants were reported to have been wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Road and weather conditions were reported as dry, with the crash occurring at night.

Investigation Continues

Several area emergency agencies responded to the crash, including the North Dakota State Patrol, McKenzie County Sheriff's Office, Williston Fire and Ambulance, Alexander First Responders, Alexander Fire Department, and Trinity Health First Response.

The North Dakota State Patrol is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. No charges have been announced, and no names have been released.

While investigators continue working to determine exactly what happened, the crash serves as another difficult reminder of how quickly things can change on our North Dakota roads, particularly at night.
