A Good North Dakota “Soaking”: Area Rainfall Totals

Much of North Dakota has received some beneficial rains over the last 24 to 48 hours.

While states like Nebraska were dealing with tornadoes yesterday, North Dakota was seeing a steady soaking rain.  Almost one of those perfect rains, where you get a good "soaking" without the run-off".

A good share of the state was "abnormally dry" or currently experiencing "drought conditions" before our latest rains.

Here's a look at the latest drought monitor map for North Dakota from the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Even before this latest shot of rain, the state has seen some improvement from last month's map.  Virtually our entire listening area in south-central and southwest North Dakota now has adequate moisture.  The southeast part of the state has also seen improvement and is no longer abnormally dry.

So, who got the most rain from our most recent round of showers in the state?

According to the CoCoRaHS website, the rain was pretty evenly distributed across the state, with north-central North Dakota getting the most (an area that needed it).  Here's the last 24-hour total as of 4/27/24 at 9 am (unless noted).

Killdeer received .08 inches of rain.

Valley City received .50 inches of rain.

Bowman received .03 inches of rain.

Menoken received .78 inches of rain.

Bismarck received .65 inches of rain. (two day total of .85 inches of rain)

West Fargo received .39 inches of rain.

Fargo received .40 inches of rain.

Ellendale received .39 inches of rain.

Grand Forks received .49 inches of rain.

Beulah received .73 inches of rain.

Hazen received .58 inches of rain.

Minot received  .97 inches of rain.

Garrison received .56 inches of rain.

Dunseith received 1.18 inches of rain (the most in the state over the last 24-hour period).
