Powerful Thunderstorms Set to Roll 😲

According to several weather agencies that I follow, this coming week is setting up for significant severe weather—something we have yet to see this year. June is typically when we see some of our most dangerous weather. That was certainly true last year, as it marked the beginning of one of our biggest tornado outbreaks ever, which lasted well into September.

It all begins Sunday/TODAY 👒

The Storm Prediction Center and the National Weather Service in Bismarck now have our listening area in a Level 3 for severe weather today. This is an increase from a Level 2 threat issued on Saturday morning. Check out this map from the National Weather Service.

Timeline for Today's (Sunday) Storms ⛈

They are expected to develop late Sunday afternoon in western North Dakota and intensify as they move west to east. They are especially expected to pack a punch for central North Dakota, including the Bismarck-Mandan metro.

Impacts Expected with these Storms? 💨

Hail up to two inches in diameter, damaging winds up to 70 miles per hour, and even a possible tornado. This is a change from the initial forecast from the Storm Prediction Center.

Even More Stormy Weather During the Week ⚡

Warm and humid air will bring the potential for even more severe weather next week, especially on Tuesday afternoon and evening. Some meteorologists I follow are saying this timeframe could bring a significant outbreak of severe weather. The National Weather Service concurs. They have already issued a Level 3 threat for south-central North Dakota.

We will continue to monitor the situation on-air with our meteorologists from Severe Studios. Be weather aware on your Sunday, and on Tuesday as well.
