It could be a bumpy Labor Day across much of North Dakota.

Severe weather is expected to develop across south-central North Dakota later this afternoon and into the evening hours.  The main threat will be hail the size of ping pong balls, and wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour.  In addition, we do have the potential for heavy rain up to 2 inches that could lead to localized flooding concerns.

The heat will linger today fueling these thunderstorms.

After some clouds this morning, mainly sunny skies will take over with humid conditions ahead of an approaching cold front.  These two air masses will collide which will lead to our severe weather potential late this afternoon and into the evening hours.  Rain showers will linger on the overnight and continue into Tuesday morning.  The strongest storms are expected to be in southwest and south central North Dakota.

Expect much cooler and pleasant conditions for the rest of the week.

Mid-60s for highs on Tuesday, followed by 70 on Wednesday.  Thursday and Friday you can expect highs in the mid-70s.  After this storm system rolls through today and tomorrow, it looks like we will remain mostly dry for the rest of the week.

Looking at the long-range weather forecast for the rest of September, this could be our last real taste of summer temperatures today.  There are no 90s or even 80s in the forecast as of right now.  It appears we will start transitioning into more fall-like temperatures.

Enjoy one last summer heatwave today.
