World Lizard Day Was Yesterday – Are There Lizards In ND?
Yes, I keep track of what each day/date brings us
For instance, yesterday ( Thursday, August 14th ) was World Lizard Day. I didn't really have much motivation of celebrating this particular day since I couldn't recall the last time I actually saw a lizard, you know? I moved from San Diego, California, to North Dakota over 11 years ago, and getting used to the change in seasons was not easy. What's that got to do with lizards, you ask?
I remember seeing lizards all the time slithering through my backyard when I was growing up
Never really gave it much thought until I heard that yesterday was World Lizard Day. Have I ever seen a lizard here in North Dakota? Maybe there are none, maybe because it gets so unbelievably cold out here that they would have been extinct years ago. Kind of a stupid thought, I know.
Are there lizards in North Dakota?
I did some digging through Google, and according to herpedia.com "There are 3 species/subspecies representing 3 genus found in North Dakota with all being native to the United States. - Greater Short-Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma hernandesi) - Northern Prairie Skink (Plestiodon septentrionalis septentrionalis) - Northern Sagebrush Lizard (Sceloporus graciosus graciosus)
Quick question - does anybody out there have a lizard as a pet?
If you do, what exactly do lizards eat? According to petmd.com "Consult with your veterinarian to determine which live food is best to feed your unique lizard. To ensure a complete diet for your lizard friend, it’s necessary to supplement oral calcium and vitamin powders."
So listen, be ready for "Hug your lizard Day" next month!
