I had a chance to visit this marvelous place a couple of weeks ago -
Adult & Teen Challenge - 1406 2nd Street in Mandan. This place moved from Williston back in 2004 - A non-profit, faith-based drug and alcohol program. Ages 18 years old and up - currently, there are 24 men and 11 women living in this 12-month residential facility.
Had a chance to visit with some of the people who are on the right step of changing their lives
The Adult & Teen Challenge's mission statement says it all:
“To help the broken, lost and hopeless overcome life-controlling issues in order to find hope and healing in all areas of their lives.”
Kristina Berner is an event coordinator - she has spent 3 and a half years working with the men and women. She teaches dancing and is thrilled to be there. "You have to be ready for a new life - it's fun to watch freedom." This is an amazing person who has put her heart and soul into helping save lives.
She continued telling me, "The greatest truth I love to see is the contrast between coming in, and the moment you can see the hope, the joy, and promise of a new life is becoming a realization and they begin living it out"
"Completely broken - not wanting to be there..."
I know from experience the feeling of being scared, not wanting to change, and not accepting the fact that I am an alcoholic. When Kristina told me that she "knows that look" "men and women who come in completely broken, not wanting to be there", is so true, and real.
If you can't make the ride but still want to be there for support, simple
From 5-7 pm - August 23 - just $5 for a plate of food and your chance to bring a smile and your support - more info at tc4hope.org
