ND Officers Are Being Honored for National Police Week

May 9 - May 15, 2021, is National Police Week.

Sunday, May 9, kicked off National Police Week for 2021. National Police Week has been celebrated since President John F. Kennedy declared it in 1962. According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, "National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others."

What events are happening locally for National Police Week?

May 12, after Dusk, and May 13, after Memorial Service

LIGHTING UP THE CAPITOL BUILDING - Starting after dusk this evening (May 12), and again tomorrow (May 13), the Capitol building will light up two floors with lights, representing the "Thin Blue Line," honoring all officers.

MEMORIAL PARADE - The parade for fallen police officers will begin at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetary, south of Mandan, and end at the Capitol grounds in Bismarck.
- Check out the parade route and directions below:
  - Parade will exit the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery northbound on ND 1806
  - Turn eastbound on 3^rd Ave SE in Mandan
  - Continue eastbound, turning on to Memorial Highway
  - Continue southeast, merging on to I-94
  - Exit I-94 at the Divide Avenue exit and turn east on Divide Ave
  - Enter the North Dakota State Capitol grounds at the (north) Divide Avenue entrance at 6^th Street
  - Vehicles will pass by the North Dakota Peace Officer Memorial prior to parking and proceeding to the Annual Peace Officer Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m.

May 13 - 1:30 PM

LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL SERVICE - Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem and Chief Mark Nelson of Grand Forks Police Department will speak. Other officers from around North Dakota will also be a part of the memorial service.
