Thanksgiving is about togetherness. We love sharing the holidays, not only with our human family, but our fur babies too.

How Do You Make Your Thanksgiving Dog-Friendly?

We're all guilty of it; we feed our dogs table scraps. This is especially true on holidays. If you want to be sure you're feeding your dogs things that are good for them, you should know there are certain things you should avoid.

Here's a list of things you SHOULDN'T give your dog(s) on Thanksgiving.

Foods To Avoid

  • Ham
  • Chocolate
  • Garlic
  • Leeks
  • Onions
  • Grapes
  • Raisins
  • Raw Potatoes
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Raw Dough
  • Canned Cranberry
  • Pre-Made Desserts
  • Pie Filling
  • Stuffing

These are things the Animal Allergy and Dermatology Center say are very bad for your dogs. Remember this includes these foods, but isn't limited to them. There are more not listed here.

Things You CAN Feed Your Dogs On Thanksgiving

  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Corn (no cob)
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Green Beans
  • Apples (no core/seeds)
  • Pumpkin
  • Rice
  • Quinoa
  • Small Amounts Of Cheese
  • Turkey (no skin, fat, or bones)

While I don't recommend anyone feeding their dogs human food, those are some you could safely feed them. Keep in mind these should be fed to your dogs in moderation. Exercise caution.

Just in case, here's a hotline you can reach out to if you're worried your dog ate something that is making her/him sick.

I hope you and all your family members have a great holiday -- including the ones with paws and waggy tails.

Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for reading. TTFN!

LOOK: Here are the pets banned in each state

Because the regulation of exotic animals is left to states, some organizations, including The Humane Society of the United States, advocate for federal, standardized legislation that would ban owning large cats, bears, primates, and large poisonous snakes as pets.
