Thank goodness, the worst accident I have ever been in was when my car's bumper kissed the bumper of another car. No damage done, so I don't think it really counts as an accident. I guess I have run over an animal, but it was the tiniest turtle, down in Texas, and I thought it was a rock. It was years ago, but I still feel bad about it. But what are the chances a person hits an animal while on the road?

KX News has a story that State Farm Insurance did a study on animal-related crashes. Apparently, this is the time of year for them. The report says that most collisions are with deer, but other animals that are likely car victims include dogs, cats, and farm animals. North Dakota didn't quite make it in the "Top 10," but our state is still considered "High Risk" with a 1 in 80* chance of colliding with an animal while driving. Our state is at number 16 on the list. Check out the full list on State Farm's website.

Like I have said before, the only animal I have ever hit was the little bitty turtle down in Texas. On the other hand, it is almost like animals are attracted to my brother and dad's vehicles. Both of them have hit multiple deer. My mom has hit a deer and a rabbit. And, if I remember correctly, another family member even hit a cow once!

Have you ever been in a car accident involving an animal?

*Note: KX News' story says "1 in 73" chance, but the information I found on State Farm's ranking site for 2019-2020 is 1 in 80.
