Some of the things we all take for granted escaped us for a couple of days

Well personally I found out how much I love driving, not for like long road trips, but just the convenience of getting in a car and heading to work. Just last Monday morning I left my 2009 Chevy Impala ( which goes 0-60 mph in about 6 minutes ) at our radio station's parking lot in Mandan and was told I could drive our 96.5 Walleye ( which has 4 wheel drive ). Like so many others, I went by Dan's supermarket and stocked up on food, and other items, anticipating the possibility of getting snowed in at home - we've had forecasts before of such storms in the past that would hit us, only to see it slide by. Not this time.

Everything that was a pre-blizzard forecast - happened

Working from home is a luxury for some, for me, it's a dungeon. Even with the Walleye truck, I couldn't get out of my complex. I made that decision to not even try and leave when Tuesday morning I walked out of my apartment building and tried to tread through huge walls of snow. There is NO way I could drive through that. Wednesday crawled by with even more bad weather, yesterday morning I was encouraged by a couple of people from work who told me that with a 4-wheel vehicle you just have to be "aggressive", "no hesitation", "Just aim the car towards the "Mt Everest" of snow piles and blast your way through to the street"

Here is how my attempt went...

My neighbor from across the street took 45 minutes of his time and HELPED me dig ( I made sure the radio still worked ). This was just one of many unselfish acts that people all over Bismarck/Mandan were involved in - After someone came out last night and paved a path from our garages to the street, I woke up this morning with the sun shining, my foot on the gas pedal, on the road to the radio station - So many thank you's are necessary for the city workers and NDDOT that are still out there helping make our roads safe - not an easy job after the huge amounts of snow we encountered. Just another reason to be proud to live in North Dakota.
