There is someone calling North Dakotans, posing as someone from the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, residents in the Fargo-Moorhead area are being warned of a person who is posing as a police officer. According to the post, the imposter is calling people and identifying as someone named "Hunter Noogan" with the Cass County Sheriff's Office. The Cass County Sheriff's Office has reported that no one has fallen victim to the scam... yet.

At the time of this post, there are no reports that a scam like this is happening in Western North Dakota. But a situation like this is important to be aware of.

Why would a scammer go as far as impersonating a police officer?

There is evil in the world but doing something like impersonating a police officer is pretty sickening. A scam like this can really instill fear in communities. If someone is impersonating an officer on the phone, what is stopping them from impersonating one in real life?

Keep this scam in mind if you get a weird phone call.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office Facebook post is asking North Dakotans to be vigilant when it comes to scams like this. If you feel you are being scammed by someone claiming to be an officer, you can call the police department yourself to confirm if the call is bogus or legitimate.

Have you ever gotten a scam phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer?
