That was my first concern when I saw these long-legged birds

I know that this family exists throughout the course of a year, but I can't recall ever seeing them out and about as much as I have lately.  How do I know this is a family? I'm just guessing by the way one of them always seems to make sure they all make it across the street safely. Tells you how much I know, I asked a fellow employee if he could tell by looking at this picture on my phone - "What kind of birds are these?" I had a hunch they were turkeys. I was right.

A certain favorite grassy knoll just off River Road here in Bismarck

The last two weeks, while driving on River Road here in Bismarck, I have noticed right around the same general cozy area, a group of around 10-12 turkeys slowly, gracefully ( well right up until someone HONKS*( sorry geece, no pun intended ) their car horn. I KNOW that WE know Thanksgiving is next week already, SO with that, the simple question is "Do these goofy-looking birds KNOW that?" For the most part, I am impressed by the consideration that Bismarck and Mandan drivers are exhibiting when they come close to this gathering. Nobody I've seen is chomping at the bit trying to grab themself an early Turkey Day bird. I'm quite confident that this family knows deep down to hurry up and get where they are going - hopefully to avoid all those people with sudden thoughts of pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce.
