The Groundbreaking has Begun – “Mandan Supports Our Schools”
Have you ever been to a groundbreaking event? On a sun-splashed Monday afternoon, I had the opportunity to be part of something special. I took the 96-5 Fox vehicle for a spin and arrived at 24th ST NW. Down the hill from Walmart, and directly behind Kramer Subaru (again down the hill) - With typical North Dakota winds lightly swirling, I stood in the back waiting to hear the news of some big-time construction happening.
Four months ago Mandan flexed their voting muscles
The podium was all set, a pretty good crowd of Mandan school board members, media, construction people were in place as well. Dr.Mike Bitz -Superintendent at Mandan Public Schools spoke first. He praised the Mandan community for their strong feelings towards education, and the future of two new schools to be built. "Four months ago voters of Mandan passed at almost an 80% approval rate - Mandan supports our schools" Dr. Bitz was referring to the district will use $9.6 million in COVID relief funds to reduce the number of bonds issued.
Mandan soon will be getting a brand new elementary and high school
Here is why the groundbreaking event was so cool - you could feel the excitement of all the Mandan school board members when they looked at the beautiful land before them. This is a huge plus for local families, for one day their kids will be walking the hallways of two beautiful new schools, and then of course generations will follow - their kids following the same footsteps.
Shovels all in a row
The moment was perfect - each individual's shovel was picked up, all in a row, everyone with a proud smile on their face, and then they hit the dirt at the same time. One could feel hopes and dreams through their hands. I left right after that, it was a great afternoon.
