Just when you think scientists have done everything they can to make Earth a better place, they go and create something like this.

According to Mashable, after 15 years of development, researchers at Oregon State have patented a new type of red seaweed that tastes just like bacon when you fry it.

Tasting like bacon is great and all, but why not just eat bacon? Well, this seaweed is packed with protein and it's low in calories! Oh, and it's also not meat.

Why is being 'not meat' a good thing? Your vegetarian friends can finally know the greatness that is bacon or, at the very least, what the greatness that is bacon tastes like.

There is no word on when the bacon seaweed will be available in stores, so just keep eating regular bacon for now. I'm going to venture a guess that the majority of you will never switch to the bacon seaweed anyhow.
