When your life becomes unmanageable and you are helpless

I am an alcoholic, and it is something that took me the longest time to accept, to finally surrender 100%. Drinking was so much of my lifestyle, and I absolutely felt there was no way I could go just one day without it. When I realized that drinking was no longer fun,  I had become a prisoner to the bottle. When I reached my rock bottom, and I was on my way to a recovery home, my step-brother told me something that I will never forget.

"Keep your eyes on the road..."

I was on my way to a recovery home for men ( for alcohol and substance abuse ),35 miles east of San Diego. I was scared and felt demoralized. My life was shutting down all around me. When we pulled into this rough facility way out in a remote area, I said to my stepbrother, "I don't belong here". His response was, "I think you do...Keep your eyes on the road"

This month is National Recovery Month

National Recovery Month is near and dear to my heart. My sobriety date is February 17, 2009, and there is not a day that goes by that I don't work on my recovery and others as well. People all around the world owe their lives to recovery treatments. When I moved to North Dakota over 11 years ago, and then here to Bismarck, the first thing I did was seek out where I could find an AA meeting.

According to samhsa.gov "National Recovery Month (Recovery Month), which started in 1989, is observed every September to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the nation’s strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and communities who make recovery possible"

If you or anyone you know may have a problem with alcohol or drugs, "There Is A Way Out" - To hear more about recovery, please give a listen to my podcast.
