One of the most common fears in life is having surgery - The thoughts that swirl through your head when you are on the way to the hospital can be horrifying. I had three stints put in about 10 years ago, but I wasn't cut open - by that I mean they didn't open up my chest. One of my biggest phobias is being put to sleep - ALWAYS makes me nervous. According to KFYRTV George Murschel from Bismarck has recovered from heart surgery and won't have any scars to show of it - You see he experienced now a less invasive method, called a TAVR procedure, has helped many people with valve problems receive the benefits of surgery without being cut open.

The whole thing came about when George and his wife Mary Ann noticed that he was lacking in energy, he hardly had any. Walking became more difficult, his motor skills had weakened. A visit to the doctor confirmed that he needed heart surgery to replace his aortic valve. Sanford Health Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Nayan Desai had some good news for Murschel - he was a candidate for TAVR (Transcatheter aortic valve replacement). What are the benefits? “Basically, changing the aortic valve of the patient from the leg or from any other access in the body without splitting their chest open,” Desai explained.

Check out this amazing part - George went on to say that he was in bed for about two hours DURING the procedure - TALKING with the doctors as they were working on his heart. Incredible.

Now George says he has 95% of his energy back and is doing more of what he loves every day.

"Here I am today-- a second life that’s unbelievable,”

                      Sure is!
