“Hello Is This The Butterball Hotline?”
It has been known far too many times that I am a single man, shocking I know. After all, a bachelor with two cats SHOULD add up to something ( an overloaded cat-box? ) right? This will be the first year in quite some time that I will be spending Thanksgiving by myself, and that is really ok. This year COVID-19 has thrown a monkey wrench into turkey day traditions, I have been lucky enough to have enjoyed the day with a good friend of mine in Minot - Bev always had me over along with her charming family, but this year we have been asked quite nicely by our governor to stay put, to not travel, and to only be with your immediate family. SO....here goes, I have actually given it some thought to preparing my own turkey - I have never cooked one.
I don't think it should be THAT hard, right? I mean I know you pick one up at the store, comes frozen, let it thaw out for like 20 minutes, put it in the microwave maybe...that would speed up the process I would think. The man that came to my rescue this morning - Steve Bakken ( Breakfast With Bakken ) from our sister station US 103-3 gave me some excellent advice - "When in doubt, the Butterball Hotline is there for you"
Easy peasy, nothing to it.....I have already logged their hotline number into my phone (1-800-288-8372 )...."Hi, it's Bromo again, sorry, I know I just called you 2 minutes ago, quick question, people keep telling me to stick a fork in it....are they referring to my radio career or the turkey?....BOTH huh? Thank you, I'll call you back in another 55 seconds or so when I have another question"
As turkey day is getting near, I find myself with a billion more questions, most of which I was hoping I could figure out for myself - like do you ask for the "already been stuffed birds" or do you insert all the gooble-goop yourself? Do you have to like - part it's legs and go at it, or is there more of a polite way to add the stuffing? The following is an example of what their Butterball Hotline is all about - For more than 30 years, the professionally trained turkey experts that make up the Turkey Talk-Line have been answering turkey-related questions each holiday season. Open every November and December, our 50+ experts answer more than 100,000 questions, for thousands of households around the United States and Canada. *** Extra operators on duty for idiots like Bromo that call in. I didn't find that very nice at all.
I am expecting my phone will be tied up quite a bit within the next 24 hours or so, heck I am already on a first-name basis with one of the Hotline operators. So listen, if you are all by yourself this Thursday, no need to panic - The Butterball Hotline has got your back! Check them out here. -
