The person or persons that invented credit cards knew exactly what they were doing. Was their idea to deliver an easier, more convenient way of buying items on credit? NO. They knew that people would get out of control and pile up huge debts that would triple in late fees. The human nature part of it all makes it so inviting to constantly "Throw down the plastic" when you are out shopping, especially around the holidays. There is this tiny muffled little voice way back in the dark dungeons of your brain that says " Careful now, your spending way too fast and too much, you DO KNOW you have to pay all that money back?"

Those are all common things we have lived with, the statistics of just how crazy we get with our credit cards is staggering - check this out - according to Wallethub  "At the beginning of 2020, Americans owed over $1 trillion in credit-card debt. Many consumers will be charging even more to their cards this year than usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and WalletHub projects that net credit card debt will increase by $80 billion in 2020". This might be a pretty easy assumption on my part, but I'm going to guess you may be experiencing debt yourself, but not a TRILLION dollars worth right?

How do we North Dakotans measure up with the rest of the country in credit card chaos? Checking back with Wallethub   " To determine which states have the least and most sustainable credit-card debts, WalletHub drew upon TransUnion credit data to calculate the cost and time required to pay off the median card balances of each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia" Alaska came in at number 1, North Dakota at #12.

Personally I didn't write this article to admonish credit cards, they are the best thing you can have for emergencies, the perfect security blanket you need to help keep you warm and safe. For more on this story click here.
